Life story
March 21, 2008

Matthew Morelli was born on July 19th, 1969, to Dennis and Roberta Morelli.  The youngest of three boys, Matt was raised with brothers Brian and Danny in Weston, Connecticut.

Matt’s love of his community was evident in his volunteer service to the greater Weston area.  In particular, he volunteered with both the Weston Fire Department (as a firefighter) and the Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service (as an EMT).  His fellow neighbors, volunteers and those who came in contact with him continually echoed their admiration and appreciation for the man who was always willing to help – and did so with a friendly smile.

After graduating from Weston, Matt entered the U.S. Marine Corps where he became an intelligence analyst. Matt was a combat veteran and served our country in Operation Desert Storm. Matt was awarded several medals and ribbons including the Combat Action Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal and the National Defense Service medal. Matt was honorably discharged from The United States Marine Corps in 1996.

Matt was very pleased to join the Norwalk Police Department in 1996.  His career spanned 11 years as he worked in the Community Policing Unit, Marine Patrol Division and, lastly, the Patrol Division.  He was well known and respected throughout the Department as a dedicated, accomplished, and honorable man with a good sense of humor.

Tragically, Officer Matthew Morelli died in the line of duty on March 21st, 2008, at 0036HRS while on patrol in South Norwalk.  He leaves behind his parents, brothers, sister-in-law and daughter Sydney.

Matt was a father, a brother, a son and even more, a good friend.  May you rest in peace always Matt.  You will be missed.
